The first thing that strikes you when you arrive at Funky Little Shacks is the sense of space – our Shepherds Huts sit high on the east shoulder of the valley of the River Dee, giving them panoramic views across the Cheshire Plain to the Clwydian Hills. These hills mark the start of the Welsh uplands, and must have defined the divide between peoples and powers ever since these lands were settled.
South Cheshire is a lovely area – gently rolling pastures are interspersed with hills, making for an interesting & attractive landscape. It surprises many people that this part of Cheshire is so close to Wales. Llangollen is only 20 miles away – and you can cover this distance in just half an hour!
Historic Chester – with the world-famous Chester zoo, the Roman walls & its excellent shopping – is just a short 20-minute drive away.
Barton itself is a small, quiet hamlet these days. The road from Wrexham to Nantwich has always been an important east-west route, carrying salt & cattle in centuries gone by – but once the village was by-passed we were left in peace.

For evening meals, The Cock O Barton pub is just a few minutes walk from our Shepherds Huts.
The Cock O Barton is an extremely popular pub which serves excellent food. Booking in advance is advisable (01829 782 277).

Arrival & Departure Times
Check In
4pm to 7pm (later by arrangement only)
Check Out
by 10.30am
If you would like to arrive or depart outside of these times, please let us know when you book or as soon as possible.
Pets
Sorry, but generally we do not accept dogs to stay with us at Funky Little Shacks due to grazing cattle.
Assistance dogs are of course welcome to stay with you.
Please do get in touch with Heather to discuss if we can make a special exception for your trained & well behaved furry friend.

Travel
Buses
There is a bus service between Chester & Whitchurch which stops close to Funky Little Shacks, which runs several times a day.
Rail
The nearest mainline railway stations are Wrexham and Chester. Both stations have express services to London. Wrexham also serves north Wales, and Chester serves North West England and Merseyside.
Air
The nearest airports are Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester International. Both are around 1 hour away by taxi.
